Circa 1993/94 Elsie Donigian introduced to the St. Leon parish, the outreach program for St. Paul's Church in Paterson, NJ, a shelter for homeless men. The shelter, which is open year round, provides special housing that is available for 45 men. The men are provided with a bed, showers, food and a safe environment. St. Paul’s Shelter has been aided in its work by a group of volunteers from many community organizations and area churches of which our parish continues to be a faithful member.
We have improved the menu from sandwiches to hearty and nourishing meals. For me, volunteering is a quality of life and is a way to pay back all the good fortune that God has bestowed upon me and my family. The individual parishioners and organizations of St. Leon’s continue to make a difference in the lives of the men at St. Paul’s. Thank you all who contribute and give of your time, treasure and talent. Truly YOU are “OUR BROTHERS’ KEEPERS." May God Bless you all.
